Dr. Marc E. Morris, Interim Associate Provost for Academic Administration, is responsible for advising the Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs on academic hiring policy, advising central administration on compliance and application of faculty contracts, and assisting the Provost on matters related to promotion and tenure and leaves of absence, including sabbaticals. Dr. Morris also serves as a resource person for school directors, department chairs, deans, and other administrators with respect to academic administration, including operating paper issues.
Dr. Morris is a three-degree SIU graduate. He earned his bachelor’s degree in university studies with an emphasis on business administration, an M.B.A. in finance and a Ph.D. in accounting. He earned a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin.
Dr. Morris has been with the university since 2004, when he started as an instructor in the School of Accountancy. He became an Assistant Professor with a cross appointment to the SIU School of Law in 2008. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2016. Dr. Morris served as Interim Director of the School of Accountancy in the College of Business and Analytics from 2018, becoming permanent Director in 2019. He was promoted to Professor in 2021. Dr. Morris became Interim Associate Provost for Academic Administration in 2021.
Dr. Morris has research interests in the role of ethics, law and accounting and how they interact with, influence and effect society. While at SIU he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on Corporate Taxation; Partnership Taxation; Governmental and Non-Profit Accounting; Business Associations; Corporations, Agency & Partnership Law; Corporate Finance; and Law & Accounting. He has served as a member of several university committees, including graduate council chair, research task force chair, the Chancellor’s Diversity and Inclusion Task Force and Chancellor’s Leadership Council.
Prior to academia Dr. Morris served in various professional roles in the private and public sectors. After a time in private practice, he served as director of Financial Planning and Administration for Cook County in Chicago, Illinois and senior financial analyst and compliance officer for Siemens-ICN in Boca Raton, Florida. His numerous community-related activities include serving on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Illinois and the Eurma C. Hayes Center.
