Dr. Susan Wegmann joined the SIU family in July of 2022. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from University of South Florida, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Mississippi, and her Ph.D. from the University of Florida in Curriculum and Instruction. All of her professional life has centered around teaching and learning: 10 years in 3rd through 8th grade classrooms (mainstream and special education, literacy and self-contained settings) and teaching at the college level since 1996. In 2002 she began teaching online and researching interaction and rapport of students and teachers in an online environment. She developed a framework to measure online discussion boards and communications in order to determine substantive, engaging ways to support student learning. She has experience as an Assistant and Associate Professor (earning tenure at the University of Central Florida), a Director of Research and Programs for an international reading center, a Dean of Teacher Education, an Associate Dean of Digital Learning and Innovation, and she currently serves as the Executive Director of SIU’s new Global Campus.
Extended Campus/Global Campus provides quality academic programs and courses that are offered via online, blended (hybrid), and face-to-face at several off campus and military installations across the nation. Extended Campus supports SIUC’s mission by providing accessible, affordable education opportunities for students who are unable to attend the main campus.
